For our client we are looking for a WAN Engineer (f/m/d).

Start: 21.04.2025
Duration: 30.09.25 (long term engagement (2026))
Capacity: 100% if possible
Location: 75% Remote, 25% Berlin (1 week Berlin / 3 weeks remote in rotation), up to 50% onsite in peak times
Budget: 85,00 EUR net

Role:
The project is re-engineering and extending an MPLS WAN backbone covering Germany and Belgium, the MPLS WAN is solely built and managed by the project and therefore this is not an MPLS network from a 3rd party, all components of the WAN P/PE, IGP, EGP are built and maintained by the project, p2p links are provided by 3rd parties but only at l2, therefore the individual must have e2e experience in MPLS network design and deployments and understand how and where optimization of the backbone can be made. For example, this includes ISIS and BGP timer optimization, route table optimization, RT/RD management. The individual must have a deep understanding of all MPLS related technologies.

Profile:
The individual must have at least 10 years in the networking space, preferably with a hands-on engineering background and at least 5 recent years real world experience in the network WAN design and implementation space as detailed below.

The individual should also be able to clearly communicate with peers and architects, the ideas, designs, and document these topics clearly and in a professional readable manner including diagrams. A very strong experience in rolling out on-premises cloud networks is a plus.

Skills (must-have):
- Proven expertise in designing and deploying (hands-on) MPLS WAN’s for connecting datcenters
- Experiences in external connectivity to the Internet
- Build up a WAN (P/PE/RR) from scratch in a greenfield scenario
- Experiences with modern segment routing (source based routing)
- Protocols: Core MPLS/MPLS-SR, IS-IS, LDP, BGP, L3VPN, OSPF, VXLAN, DWDM, Ethernet
- Systems: Cisco IOS-XE, Cisco NX-OS and/or Juniper (MX)
- Experience with Jira, Confluence and Miro or similar tools
- fluent English in speech and writing (at least C1)

Skills (should-have):
- vyOS and/or other linux based routing FRR, Cisco ACI, Cisco Nexus Juniper Apstra, Palo Alto, Client VPN technologies
- Public Cloud (Azure, GCP) connectivity options (direct peering, dedicated interconnects, carrier peering)
- IX Peering Internet provider and associated protocols; BGP etc
