For our client we are looking for a Fullstack Developer (Backstage IDP / Plugin Development) (m/f/d):

Project Description:
Our client is operating and expanding Backstage-based Internal Developer Platform (IDP). You will support the extension, integration, and maintenance of the Backstage instance and its plugin landscape (frontend & backend) to enable standardized, secure platform services and efficient developer workflows/onboarding.

End: 28.02.2027
Duration: approx. 12 months, with possible extension
Workload: approx. 70% 
Location: 90% Remote, 10% Berlin (onsite), Brussels (travel approx. 5%)

Tasks:
- Design technical concepts for enhancements and adaptations of an existing Backstage platform in line with security, architecture, compliance, and operational requirements.
- Analyze platform architecture, interfaces, plugin structures, and integration mechanisms; derive recommendations for further platform evolution.
- Gather and translate organizational, functional, and technical requirements into implementable solutions.
- Design, implement, test, and document custom Backstage plugins (frontend and backend) covering defined workflows and use cases.
- Integrate plugins with internal tools, services, APIs, CI/CD pipelines, and identity and asset systems; implement and document authentication and authorization mechanisms.
- Extend and configure the Backstage backend for additional services and integrations; advise on integration patterns, security architecture, and operating models.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation (architecture overviews, technical designs, plugin and API documentation, workflows, integration and configuration decisions) and support knowledge transfer for operations and further development.

Experience & Skills:
- 2+ years hands-on experience with Backstage or comparable developer portals and IDPs (design, customization, extension, maintenance).
- Proven experience developing and customizing Backstage plugins (frontend and  4+ years backend development experience with Node.js, ideally in platform or integration environments.
- 3+ years frontend development experience with React.
- 1+ year experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines, preferably with Azure DevOps.
- Strong hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes (deployment and operations of platform services).
 - Experience with Azure or equivalent cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), especially cloud-native applications and platform services.
- Ability to provide project references demonstrating the above experience (scope, timeframe, client, responsibilities, short description).
